The Costa Blanca offers one of the widest variety of foods on the Mediterranean Coast. In Torrevieja their influences come from the whole of the Valencia region including all the traditional special rice dishes and paella dishes as well as having their own local dishes.
They have "mojama" and "hueva" (a type of dry and salted fish), dry or baked octopus, prawns from the Manor Sea, baby squid, and an extensive range of local sausages.
There is of course, Spain's most famous dish, "Paella" which can be found in most Spanish restaurants on the Costa Blanca.
The most typical dish on this area is "Caldero". Its name comes from the saucepan which it is cooked in, the main ingredient being fish. It is served with rice and a garlic sauce. Other local dishes are various types of fried or baked fish in salt.
One of the typical desserts is "Pan de Calatrava" which is a type of crème caramel, or "Milhojas" which is a type of meringue.
